It started with a lyric in 2013, “let’s get a motel in the desert.” I didn’t know exactly what it meant, but the line never left my head. Over time, the lyric slowly transformed into “The 93 Motel,” the title of my second mixtape; “93” because of my birth year, 1993. However, before every mixtape is finalized, put into order, re-ordered, tested, mixed, and re-ordered again, there are many songs that don’t make the cut. So before I release “The 93 Motel,” I present the songs that didn’t quite make it. It wasn’t easy. I listened to these songs many times either with my eyes closed and my headphones on or in my car, circling my neighborhood and backroads. Regardless, these are the songs that accompanied my journey to “The 93 Motel,” hence “To the Motel in the Desert.” Enjoy.
